Fat is a major energy source for the body. However, it is not the body’s only source of energy, and too much fat in the diet can be harmful. It is especially bad for the circulatory system because it raises blood cholesterol levels that can contribute to heart attack or stroke. This sample diet are designed to reduce fat and cholesterol.

Special Considerations

1. Person should maintain slightly lower than the standard body weight.
2. Decrease calories if needed to reach a healthy body weight.
3. Reduce total fat and saturated (animal fat).
4. Avoid cholesterol rich foods.
5. Avoid whole milk and its products like cheese, curds, and ice cream. Substitute skim milk and its products.
6. Cut down on fried foods (parantha, poories, samosa, fafda, bhajia, gota, etc.).
7. Restrict your added fat intake to 4 teaspoons of ghee or butter and/or oil per day like safflower, sunflower, corn, cottonseed, sesame oils or peanut and olive oil.
8. Include vegetable oil rich in Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acid (rapeseed, mustard or soyabean oils) in moderation.
9. Vegetable oils in combination should be included.
10. Fruits and vegetables should be included in diet.
11. Take diet rich in fiber.
12. If the person is suffering from hypertension, restrict salt intake.
13. Cut down on fried foods (parantha, poories, samosa, fafda, bhajia, gota, etc.).
